A small change to the blog - I put a link up for the website of an ex-professor of mine. The NYTimes sent him to New Orleans a while ago and, as usual, he took incredibly moving photos. I recommend surfing the whole site. He has no equals.
Mike is taking a much needed break from computerdom. He will surely be back with a bang shortly.
I hope to be putting some pictures of Waveland I took today up soon. There have been technical difficulties though.
For now, enjoy Laforet's superior work.

I live in Long Beach, MS.

My house is fine. A sort of "survivor's guilt" has made feel kind of bad, because I still have a home. Isn't that just crazy? I'm lucky. I have nothing to complain about.

But like many (well, most) of the Coast residents, my heart is just broken that we who survived the storm have otherwise lost so much-- culturally, financially, and in so many other ways.

Thanks for the site. And the insight.

Thanks so much for adding that link. The photo montage was deeply moving, and I'm glad you continue to report things firsthand and take telling photographs yourself. Eye-Opening.

I am awed that you keep the material commentary on Katrina so real and continuing. I am so far away and desolate that we can't do more than send money. We were supposed to get 1000 displaced survivors here in Oregon, but the gummint said 'yes no yes no yes no'....and the people who arrived here were brought by a fundamentalist church.

I've decided that I can creat an archive- maybe. Of other people's commentary.

so.... http://femascrewedup.blogspot.com

Your words. My archive.

thanks for your persistence and courage.

Thanks so much for sharing this slide show. It definitely gives me a better idea of magnitude of the damage... appreciate it even more. Horrible what Mother Nature can dish out when she wants to.

Yours is a work of "heart" and I have referred your blog to fifteen friends who will, I'm sure, pass the blog-link on to others.

You're doing a very good job of reporting; please continue providing photos. It's good to read and see information that's not tainted by the talking heads and the main-stream-media.
