Friends,
As Josh said, this ride has reached its end. I have been humbled and awed by the people who came to this blog to read our words and experience Katrina for these last eight months. I hope it was useful to some and calming to others.
We decided to end this blog today on the news of being honored with the most prestigious journalism award in the country. Not to bring it down, but it is a bittersweet thing to accept. I would gladly hand it back if it would prevent the death and untold suffering for which we were awarded the prize.
Let it also be known that this award only highlights the fact that we did nothing special. Any journalist that I am proud to know would have done the same thing. Some would do it for the glory and adventure, but most would because they believe in the power of words to help, to calm and to force action, especially when life spins around on you and kicks you in the guts.
Katrina chose us, we did not choose Katrina— all we had to do was show up to work.
Thank you all for reading.
Mike Keller

I read all that in our California Bay Area paper today. I want to say congratulations, as I understand the bittersweetness of this award. But you have done everyone a service through your work in keeping people aware of what happened, and what is still happening even though Katrina the storm is over. The suffering still continues. Bless you guys, and thank you for keeping us all in the loop! I'll miss your work here!

Oh please!!! You two went above and beyond!!! Other men would have dropped and ran!!! You were there for the long haul...ok, you're probably both nuts for doing it, but what a ride it was to watch the goings on through your writings!!! I expect to see great things happen to you both!!!

Amazing... so many emotions going through my gut as I read your last posting. The honor of "meeting" the two of you through this blog, remembering all the personal struggles that you endured and shared with us over the past months, the absolute pride and excitement in learning about the P.Prize, being touched to the soul after reading your simple and humble acknowledgment of it here... the tears that started to flow that represent not only the overwhelming joy for you in receiving that award, but also for the sadness in hearing that this will be the end of the blog and our "connection" with you, and finally, in memory of all of the people, places and events that you have written about over the course of this blog. Thank you for sharing your talents... you have touched more people in more ways than you'll ever know.

Do you or anyone you know have photos that fit this description who would be interested in submitting for use in the book?

Also, it would be wonderful if you could forward/blog this email to other people you think might be interested in contributing.

In 2005 a tragic hurricane devastated the Gulf of Mississippi. This documentary attempts to shed light on Pass Christian and other towns in Mississippi that were neglected in the media's coverage of the storm. The documentary features Miss America 2010 and residents affected by the disaster.

I would appreciate you watching the entire documentary and sharing it with your social networksl.

Five years later there is still so much left to do.

Have kept your Eye of the Storm Blog on my favorites since Katrina. You two were my sanity savers after the hurricane. My brothers truck has washed off a bridge on his way to help someone, because of you and your blog, I was able to connect with someone that knew him and I found out he had been through a crazy ordeal, but, was ok. I will forever be grateful! Hope your lives are filled with Huge blessings!
